Rosslyn leads Crystal City in murals
In apparent response to Rosslyn's pioneering and stunning crape myrtle mural, Crystal City has announced that it has commissioned a mural that will be bigger than Rosslyn's mural. Just the sort of action that you would expect from a younger sister desperate for attention. Well, Crystal, let me tell you something. The Ode Street Tribune passionately believes that size isn't everything. Setting, ambiance, and the total experience is more important than raw size. Look at the beautiful patterns of shapes and buildings in Rosslyn and the way that the Rosslyn mural nestles within. Installing something bigger is not enough to be more beautiful.

magnificent jade jewelry display in Miracles window
Next time you're enjoying a nice spring walk about Rosslyn, make sure to check out Miracles display window near the corner of Wilson & N. Oak St. Miracles is not only an outstanding hair salon, but it also has the finest window display in the region. The window display currently features a variety of jade jewelry, two ornate golden spoons, and a variety of other treasures. The threat of marauding pirates from the nearby Heavy Seas Alehouse hasn't scared Miracles.
Heavy Seas Alehouse already major Rosslyn port
Heavy Seas Alehouse opened in Rosslyn last month at the corner of 18th St. and N. Oak St. It's already attracting a large crowd to its locally sourced food and locally brewed craft beer. You can get a variety of oysters harvested off the coast of Virginia. Very tasty. You can also buy growlers of fresh-brewed beer. Unfortunately, these growlers are misleading labeled as Heavy Seas Alehouse, "Baltimore MD, Arlington VA." Heavy Seas Alehouse is in Rosslyn. Stay informed and take shelter from stormy weather with beer and food in Heavy Seas Alehouse.

Rosslyn's cafe aficionado is next to Gateway Park
In response to reports that Rosslyn residents were having difficulty locating the new cafe aficionado, the Tribune dispatched its crack investigative journalist. Cafe aficionado has been located at 1919 N. Lynn St. It's on the ground floor of that large, new tower just before Gateway Park. Cafe aficionado is thus right on the route for a walk about Rosslyn's beautiful and scenic Roosevelt Island.
Cafe aficionado offers a wide range of organic coffee drinks. It also offers sandwiches and deserts. Among the more exotic offerings are Eritrean tea, fruit granita, and leige waffles. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm, and Saturday, 8am to 3pm. Cafe aficionado would be an excellent stop for a Saturday morning stroll about Rosslyn.

"this snow will not stand"
Rosslyn residents remained defiant after three inches of snow blanketed Rosslyn. "I'm not getting out of bed until it goes away," said one Rosslyn resident from beneath a duvet. If such protests spread more widely, the region could be paralyzed.
Some residents reported hearing protesters chanting "Make like a bear until the streets are bare!" They may have been in Rosslyn's Freedom Park.
"I want spring so much I can smell the cherry blossoms already," said another resident as she brushed the powdery snow off her car. Her husband, watching her work, muttered, "This snow will not stand. It makes no sense."
Amid the chaos and confusion, in season and out of season, you can count on the Ode Street Tribune to report the news on the ground in Rosslyn.

for Rt. 50 bikepath, VDOT may need planning help
Construction of the Rt. 50 bikepath is progressing rapidly. The new bikepath will help to accommodate the huddled masses yearning to breathe the excitement in Rosslyn. Unfortunately, the connection to the Arlington Blvd off-ramp appears to be problematic. A concrete wall on the right leaves little room for the new bikepath. At the same time, moving the car lane to the left would run it into the oncoming traffic lane of the connecting street.
Making a good connection for the bike path and the inhumane-powered-vehicle lane looks like a serious urban planning challenge. VDOT should consider calling upon the top Arlington planning talent now focusing on Rosslyn.

candidates support Rosslyn access to river
The Radnor/Ft. Myer Heights Civic Association (RAFOM) and the North Rosslyn Civic Association (NRCA) hosted tonight a candidates' night for upcoming Arlington County Board special election. That election to fill one county board seat until this November's election will occur on Tuesday, April 8th.
Candidates were generally well-informed about Rosslyn's issues. All candidates expressed strong support for improving Rosslyn's access to the Potomac riverfront and Roosevelt Island.
Here are the candidates, with links to their opening statements at the RAFOM/NRCA forum, and links to the candidates' websites for more information.

Rosslyn is at the heart of America
Ever since the demise of Sholl's Cafeteria in Washington, DC, Rosslyn has become the standard-bearer for everything that's great about America. Highlighting the greatness of Rosslyn, this Thursday a giant mural of crape myrtles will be installed in the center of Rosslyn. A prize-winning artist appropriately declared, "I’m very pleased that the greatest artwork since the Lascaux cave paintings is featuring Rosslyn." Rosslyn is leading America and the world to a great new future.

massive photographic celebration of Rosslyn
Next Thursday, a new public art masterpiece will be unveiled in Rosslyn and featuring Rosslyn. It's a specially commissioned work by a prize-winning artist:
Commissioned by the BID to shoot “The Rosslyn Series,” fine art photographer Frank Hallam Day explored Rosslyn’s streets and captured beauty in the most unexpected places. As Central Place undergoes transformation, so do all engaged by the photographic installation that graces the south wall of one of the site’s original buildings. You can bet that the struggling Corcoran Gallery will be forlornly eying this new work of art. The best way to prepare to appreciate this work is to savor again Poncho Sanchez's poignant tribute to Rosslyn at last year's Rosslyn Jazz Festival.
Day’s work is found in numerous museums and private collections in the United States and abroad. He is a winner of the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Prize and the Bader Prize.

peace sign replaces "don't walk" sign in Rosslyn
Adding to Rosslyn's reputation as a hipster neighborhood, the "don't walk" sign at the corner of Clarendon Blvd. and Pierce St. has been replaced with a peace sign. The new sign is less authoritarian and more communal. When you see the peace sign, just chill where you are for awhile. No problem. Peace, love, and traffic safety for everybody, baby.
If other localities follow Rosslyn's lead, the world will be a more groovy place.

the world has not ended
In response to rumors that the world had ended after a few inches of snowfall, the Ode Street Tribune sent its journalist to investigate. Local roads are unplowed and slippery. Rt. 50 is clear and bringing vehicles into Rosslyn. Earlier rain remains as a layer of moisture underneath the snow. Falling temperatures tonight are likely to create a lot of ice. Rosslyn's own Ft. Myer opened this morning at 8am and remains open, serving regional residents and visitors. The world has not ended.
