To celebrate literature and support community literacy, the Friends of the Arlington Public Library are holding a Great Gatsby 813 Ball at Artisphere on Saturday, September 28, 8-11pm. Period costumes (1920s attire) is requested. This elegant event, appropriately held in historic Rosslyn, will include:
- 1920s music performed by the Hot Society Orchestra of Washington
- Fidgety Feet - D.C.’s premier Lindy Hop dance troupe – will demonstrate 1920s dances
- Master of Ceremonies Garrett Peck, author of Prohibition in D.C.: How Dry We Weren’t
- Canapes served reminiscent of the time
- Silent auction to benefit 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, a new early literacy initiative designed to encourage families, teachers, childcare providers, and librarians to read with children from birth and beyond
- Prizes awarded for the best 1920s-style attire
