Rosslyn thankful

Rosslyn is thankful for vegetables.  Pumpkin and yellow squash go well with broccoli.  But please don't eat Rosslyn's fine Thanksgiving display.

Rosslyn needs wildflower search engine

An outstanding wild flower search engine is available for 12 western states and British Columbia.  But it's not available for Rosslyn.  That's unfortunate, because in addition to Rosslyn's famous cultivated flowers, Rosslyn also has many wild flowers.  The Ode Street Tribune calls upon Rosslyn residents to form a committee to study how to raise half a million dollars to fund the development of a wild flower search engine for Rosslyn.  Flowers are not just for birds and bees.  They are essential to human life.

construction of new path has begun

The construction of a new multi-user path on the south side of Rt. 50 has begun.  The construction is likely to be completed sometime this coming spring.  The new multi-user path will help persons from Virginia to California come to Rosslyn.

Muntain Lovesong at Artisphere

To prepare for a profound Thanksgiving, you should see Westen Muntain's Lovesong, now on exhibit in Artisphere's Mezz Gallery.  The exhibit summary poignantly explains:
The work is not interested in a literal description, but rather in a series of essential grace notes that the artist can transform into a continual reminder of where she might actually be. The resulting woodcut describes a landscape that is mildly faithful to the land itself, but is also heavily informed by the possibilities of what might be, or has been, or is.
What might be, has been, or is nowhere but here in Rosslyn, the place you actually are.  That's good news.  Sing a lovesong with Thanksgiving.

Rosslyn metro bike parking

The Rosslyn metro bike rack is filling up.  Previously this rack was hidden in the back of the metro station.  Only well-informed persons used it.  Now a lot of people are using the bike rack.

Do your friends, neighbors, and country-persons a favor.  Tell them there's another bike rack across Wilson Blvd, just past Ft. Myer Dr.  It's another, unique, creative bike rack that adds to Rosslyn's impressive collection of artistic bike racks.  This rack evokes tunnels, wires, and connectivity.  It celebrates Rosslyn's distinguished position as a hub for transportation and communication.

Rosslyn provides for nature

Portable toilets were put up in Rosslyn's bucolic Meade St. Park prior to the Marine Corps Marathon.  Three of those toilets still remain there.  Even in a bustling urban area like Rosslyn, people feel calls of nature.  Rosslyn's Meade St. Park provides for nature.

new sign for Rosslyn

A new sign has been erected along Rt. 50 to guide cars and planes into Rosslyn.  N Lynn St is Rosslyn's monumental parade route that should soon feature luminous bodies.  Anticipating that development, the new sign includes lights on a metal rack protruding outward from the bottom of the sign.  Key Bridge is appropriately at the bottom of the sign, as it's only likely to be of interest to motorists seeking a cross-river view of Rosslyn.

Apparently responding to the artistic concerns of a leading local news source, the new sign uses bare-metal piping that matches the color of Rosslyn's silver twin towers.  The over-all effect is to create a fantastically stimulating skyscape.

all children are winners in Rosslyn

This past Saturday, Rosslyn's magnificent new children's playground in Ft. Myer Heights Park was formally opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and local dignitaries.  The Radnor/Ft. Myer Heights neighbor is home to about 700 school-aged children.  On a nice Saturday afternoon a significant share of them are now playing in the new children's playground.

According to a report from Andrea L.S., "an independent journalist specializing in children's activities in Radnor/Ft. Myer Heights," all children who participated in the scavenger hunt at the opening ceremony finished as winners.  Prizes for winner's included Arlington County pencils (great for young journalists!) and water bottles (great for young bicyclists!).   There's no more important lesson for children than that being in Rosslyn makes you a winner.

motorcyclists gather in Rosslyn

While Rosslyn has a reputation for contemporary art and fashion, you can also feel a rugged vibe in mass of motorcycles regularly seen in Rosslyn.  The roar of motorcycles nicely balances the noise of planes.  The Ode Street Tribune has high hopes that Heavy Seas Alehouse, slated to open soon in Rosslyn, will bring many motorcycles gangs to Rosslyn and alleviate some residents concerns about airplane noise.

In related news, the Radnor/Ft. Myer Heights Civic Association (RAFOM) will meet on Wednesday, December 4 at 7 PM in the Prospect House Condominium Meeting Room. The meeting will address airplane noise and will feature Russ Adams, Support Specialist, Washington District, Federal Aviation Administration; and Mike Jeck, Aero Acoustic Program Manager, Airport Noise Office, Metropolitan Washington  Airports Authority.

Rosslyn strengthens lead in artistic bike racks

The magnificent new children's playground in Rosslyn's Ft. Myer Heights Park includes two new artistic bike racks. The bike racks' vertical poles bend evocatively like wild grass in a gentle breeze.  The connecting segments build upon the pastoral theme with a design like the ripples of water after an acorn drops in a placid pond.  These new bike racks are a fine addition to Rosslyn's artispherical bike racks, its art-deco bike rack, and its folk-art bike posts.

As well-informed persons know, this Saturday at 11am at the playground will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an excellent scavenger hunt.

raccoon spotted at Rosslyn's Westmoreland condos

A fat raccoon was sighted tonight about 9:30pm at the historically important and reportedly haunted Westmoreland Terrace Condominiums.  The raccoon moved briskly across the walkway and crouched at the entrance to a sewer.  Apparently too fat to fit in, the raccoon turned and with embarrassment stared at the Westmoreland resident.  The resident, lacking nerve, turned away.  When he looked back, the raccoon had vanished.

A well-known rabbit lived in the bushes in this area.  The rabbit may now be inside the raccoon's stomach.

rapid voting at Rosslyn Wilson precinct

About 8:15 this morning, turnout was brisk at the precinct at the world-famous Mongolian School in Rosslyn's endangered Wilson School.  Persons were moving in and out with only a brief delay.

The Ode Street Tribune predicts that candidates who attended the RAFOM-North Rosslyn candidates night last month will prevail in today's election.  That should be a lesson for all candidates in the future.

new construction along Rt. 50 in Rosslyn

New construction is occurring new the corner of Arlington Blvd. and N. Nash St. in Rosslyn.  The Ode Street Tribune's investigative reporter speculates that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is planning to construct a eastbound digital sign to complement the westbound digital sign that obscures a beautiful view of Rosslyn and provides unimportant information

Many drivers pass though Rosslyn on Rt. 50 without knowing what they are missing.  The Ode Street Tribune demands that any new sign constructed in Rosslyn along Rt. 50 pay homage to Rosslyn artistic, creative sensibility.  It should encourage drivers to exit their usual thoroughfare and explore Rosslyn.  Perhaps the sign could include some colored-yarn-like decoration or luminous bodies of light.  Plain black steel pipe should be unthinkable.

scavenger hunt and ribbon-cutting Saturday, Nov. 9

The magnificent Ft. Myers Heights children's playground will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this coming Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11am at the playground.  The ceremony will include a scavenger hunt for children with awesome prizes.  Everyone is invited to this free event.

While the Ode Street Tribune's team of investigative journalists has not been able to uncover any secret information about the scavenger hunt, the Tribune's staff archeologist believes that ancient fossils are buried within the playground's sandpit.  The stones within the park are obviously very ancient.  The sand pit itself has some relation to the famous La Brea Tar Pits in California.  Here's some information on excavating fossils.
